International Travel Grants - Supporting International Research Cooperation
Water Research Cluster of the University of Adelaide
One of the aims of the Water Research Cluster has been to foster international research cooperation. From 2004 to 2007, this has been done by providing funding support for international travel for academics within the Cluster and for international visitors to travel to Adelaide University. Support was provided primarily to supplement other funding and so at least 50% of the travel costs were met from other sources.
Priority was given to travel missions that were:
- designed to develop collaboration that is cross-disciplinary in nature;
- involved more than one member of the Cluster;
- supported an early career researcher within the Cluster to develop international linkages;
- resulted in the submission of applications for funding for postgraduate scholarships, post-doctoral fellows, ARC Linkage or other research grants, new research centres and/or other collaborative research activities;
- had high scientific merit.
A maximum of $2,500 was made available per applicant (i.e. an application to support travel of two Cluster members could request $5,000).
Each successful applicant was required to report to the Leadership Panel of the Cluster on:
- the opportunities for cooperation that emerged from the mission
- any submissions for joint funding that were prepared as a result
- the broader opportunities that emerged for other Cluster members
- follow up actions that are planned
- a small article of 250 words or less with a photo on the mission for including in the Cluster newsletter.
